Be Specialty was started in 2006 by Ben Boyle, intially we were an espresso bar roasting coffees we love for use in our own shop on a little 3 kilo Diedrich roaster.

Being one of the first specialty coffee shops in Auckland city it was definitely an exciting time.

Over the years we gained a bit of a following and started supplying coffee to a handfull of cafes across Auckland.

We made the hard decision in 2019 to move on from our espresso bar, relocate our little 3 kilo roaster, add a larger 24 kilo Diedrich and focus on supporting other cafes with what we had learnt.

Fast forward a few years and we are now operating out of a dedicated Roasting space in Birkenhead, Auckland and working to supply great coffee and support to a little over 30 cafes.

All the coffees we import and roast are coffees we love, we source the highest grade of coffee we can and roast each coffee with care on our original 3 kilo Diedrich roaster or our much larger 24 Diedrich roaster.

We have always been a Family owned and operated business with a small team off coffee geeks who love what they do.

What is specialty coffee?

Speciality coffee is defined as a crafted quality coffee-based beverage, which is judged by the consumer (in a limited marketplace at a given time) to have a unique quality, a distinct taste and personality different from, and superior to, the common coffee beverages offered.

The beverage is based on beans that have been grown in an accurately defined area, and which meet the highest standards for green coffee and for its roasting, storage and brewing.
