Kenya Kiamugumo AB (filter)

Kenya Kiamugumo AB (filter)

Kiamugumo coffee originates from the Kiamugumo Factory, part of the New Ngariama Farmers' Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga County. The factory, situated on the lush slopes of Mount Kenya, has 1,500 active members. Farmers harvest classic SL28 and SL34 varieties, delivering ripe cherries during two main seasons—from October to January and April to June. At the facility, cherries undergo wet processing with water sourced from the nearby Kii River. Following pulping and fermentation, the beans are washed and dried on raised African beds before being sent to the Central Kenya Coffee Mill in Karatina for grading and sorting. Sustainability is a central focus for Kiamugumo. Wastewater from processing is carefully directed into soak pits located away from natural water sources to safeguard local drinking water. The factory encourages tree planting among members and promotes eco-friendly practices throughout its operations. Committed to increasing both production and quality in the long term, Kiamugumo invests in farmer training, education, and innovation. An on-site demonstration plot helps farmers implement best practices on their farms, ensuring a future rooted in tradition and environmental care.
