West Java - Indonesia (Espresso)

West Java - Indonesia (Espresso)

From a local producer in western Java, this lot comes from ideal conditions for growing high-quality Indonesian coffee. This coffee is wet-hulled, a method synonymous with Indonesia. Wet-hulled coffee, known locally as giling basah (meaning "wet grinding"), involves stripping the protective parchment skin from the coffee bean. At the same time, it is still damp and semi-dry—typically at 30% to 50% moisture content. This differs from conventional washed or natural processing, where the parchment layer remains intact until the bean is fully dried to an export-ready 11–12% moisture. This particular lot is a mixed varietal that includes Sigarar Utang, a highly productive Indonesian Arabica coffee cultivar mainly grown in the highlands of North Sumatra. Developed by the Indonesia Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI) in the mid-1990s and officially endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2005, it is a semi-dwarf hybrid renowned for its exceptional yield and strong resistance to coffee leaf rust.
